The Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia (RDF CM) was instituted in 1997 by the legislation of L. 2218/94 as amended by art. 12 par. 10 of L. 2307/95 and art. 4 par. 3 of L. 2503/97 and is supervised by the Ministry of Interior. It is a Private – Law Legal Entity and is administered by the nine-member Management Board, which is consisted of representatives from productive bodies, chambers, officials, and representatives of the economic and executive committee, and the major opposition. President of the Management Board is the Governor of Central Macedonia. The operation of the Regional Development Fund is twofold, on the one hand the Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia functions as an accountant project manager of the Public Investment Programme, and on the other hand it supports the development process in the Region of Central Macedonia (RCM), utilizing its know-how in the implementation of European Programmes, Initiatives, and various studies, research, and services. Through these actions, the RDF CM aims to strengthen dissemination, entrepreneurship, innovation, and new technologies in the priority areas of the RCM.
The responsibilities of the Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia include, among others:
i. The management of credits of the Public Investment Programme, fundings of public sector bodies and other legal entities, fundings originating from Programmes of the European Union and other international organizations, which relate to the Regional (Regional Operational Program of Central Macedonia / ROP CM) and sectoral (Operational Program Fisheries and Maritime / OP FM, Rural Development Program / RDP, Operational Program for Food and Basic Material Aid of the Greek Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived / FEAD, etc.) development Programmes of the Region.
ii. The submission of proposals and the implementation of European Programmes and Initiatives (European Territorial Cooperation Programmes / INTERREG, HORIZON, etc.), as well as the support of the Region in its participation in international networks and collaborations.
iii. The technical support of the Region through the elaboration of studies, research, and services assigned to the RDF CM by the Region, for the more efficient employment of the resources. This support also includes dissemination actions targeting RCM’s priority areas, enhancing, inter alia, agri-food, tourism, and health.
